Ford broadened choices across its 1978 truck lineup, and this Ford F250 climbs up and over its three-quarter-ton Ranger XLT status with a recently completed frame-off restoration and time-proven performance upgrades. The big-block 460 CI Ford V-8 was rebuilt from the crankshaft to rocker arms and equipped with a Holley 750 CFM 4-barrel carburetor on an Edelbrock Performer intake,

MSD digital 6A ignition, 3-inch Magnaflow dual exhaust and a March serpentine-belt system that spins a polished alternator and air-conditioning compressor. Stepped-up Ford performance is sent through a built Cruise-O-Matic C6 automatic transmission out to Dana 40 front and Dana 60 rear differentials with polished covers. Power steering and brakes work together with Ford forged-steel twin I-beam front and leaf-spring rear suspension for confident all-terrain control. The regular cab and 8-foot bed were stripped down to bare metal, painted back into a base/clear coat two-tone Shadow Gray and red color scheme, and then

mounted on the black powder-coated frame with a 6-inch suspension lift. The Ranger XLT trim level brought first-year rectangular headlights and body-side molding with black inserts. The cab was outfitted with a new headliner, full-foam seat, door panels and carpet, as well as a refinished dash with simulated wood-tone applique and a glovebox Ranger XLT badge. Fresh weather stripping throughout and air conditioning return factory four-season comfort. Bully aluminum step bars help get a leg up on the 6-inch lift, a bed-side toolbox adds utility, and optional low-mount Western mirrors deliver stylish side and rear views. The lifted F250 looks great with 18-inch Pro Comp alloy wheels wrapped in 35-inch Nitto Terra Grappler All Terrain tires and stands ready to conquer any terrain placed in its path.
