A Minnesota woman’s arrest might have been an ordinary shoplifting case, but her booking photo quickly turned the incident into a viral social media sensation after thousands of people noticed an uncanny resemblance to global superstar Jennifer Lopez.

Cyrena Anne Quast, 35, was arrested on August 30 in connection with the alleged theft of two double packs of power-tool batteries from a store in Monticello, Minnesota. According to records cited by the New York Post, the batteries were worth approximately $580.

On the surface, there was nothing particularly unusual about the alleged offense. But once Quast’s mugshot began circulating online, the conversation surrounding the arrest took an unexpected turn.

Instead of focusing entirely on the stolen merchandise, social media users became fascinated by one thing: just how much Quast appeared to look like Jennifer Lopez.

The resemblance was so striking that some people initially questioned whether the photograph was actually of the famous singer and actress.

A routine arrest takes an unexpected turn online

According to reports, a store employee recognized Quast from an alleged theft that had taken place two days earlier. The employee reportedly contacted police, leading authorities to become involved in the August 30 incident.

Quast was subsequently arrested following the alleged theft of the power-tool batteries.

The value of the items—around $580—was enough to attract police attention, but it was her mugshot that ultimately captured the attention of the internet.

Once the photograph was posted and shared across social media, users quickly began comparing Quast’s appearance with Lopez, one of the most recognizable entertainers in the world.
