I'd like to take a moment and share with you guys some details about Major Tom! So....he wasn't always an old 4wd beast, he started out life as a 2wd pickup truck. I purchased him off of Craigslist in a small mountain town in Colorado for $1,800 and drove him the 3.5 hour drive home. He performed flawlessly. Originally he was a camper special sport custom. Yucatun gold. Had a tired 360 V8 with a T-18 4-speed transmission and manual steering and all drum brakes.. I loved driving him, but I always wanted a 4x4 "Highboy ". I bought a 1976 F250 4x4 for the running gear and did a complete body swap. The restoration took 1 year exactly of hard work. Not a show truck but good driver quality that could still be a workhorse. Major Tom has a Lincoln 460 V8 with a Holley 670 carburetor, Sanderson headers and a 2.5 inch dual exhaust with Thrush "welded" series mufflers. Goodbye clutch...now has a C-6 automatic transmission and the bulletproof NP205 transfercase. Has a Dana 44HD front axle with Mile Marker manual hubs and a Dana 60 rear end. 4.10 gears. Front disc brakes and power assist steering. Body was painted Boxwood Green (I personally like it better than the original color). Front bumper is modified to fit from an old 70s Ford Louisville truck and fitted with D-Shackles and LED off road lights. Heavy duty rear bumper fitted with D-Shackles. 16x7 white steel wheels fitted with LT255/85r16 Mastercraft CXT tires. Interior features a custom upholstered camouflage bench seat, carpet and a Lokar floor shifter.
