For nearly three decades, Judy Sheindlin has been one of the most recognizable faces on television. Known around the world simply as Judge Judy, she built an extraordinary career by bringing her sharp wit, blunt honesty, and unmistakable courtroom presence into millions of homes.

But now, at 83 years old, the television icon is preparing to step away from the front of the camera.

After years of appearing on television almost every day, Sheindlin says she is ready for a change — and she has a very straightforward reason for it.

“I have a lot of other things of interest,” the longtime TV star explained.

For someone who may not immediately recognize the name Judy Sheindlin, the words “Judge Judy” are likely to mean something very different. The nickname became synonymous with a particular kind of courtroom television: fast-paced arguments, unexpected twists, blunt observations, and a judge who rarely hesitated to tell people exactly what she thought.

When Judge Judy premiered 30 years ago, few could have predicted just how massive the show would become.

Audiences quickly became fascinated by Sheindlin’s no-nonsense personality. She had a reputation for cutting straight through complicated arguments, delivering quick comebacks, and reacting with a mixture of disbelief and humor to some of the unusual people and cases that appeared before her.
